Movie Nights Can Be the Best Nights

September 4, 2017

A thunderstorm rolled into Valencia in the wee hours of the morning. Since my window was opened, I basically jumped out of my bed from the loud thunder, but I was later lulled back to sleep by the rhythm of the rain. It’s been a very long time since I’ve slept that hard.

When I woke up, I cringed at the idea of moving accommodations for the third time since being in Valencia. Lugging my travel backpack and my day backpack through busy streets and public transportation is not my favorite hobby.

But then I realized that moving accommodations does indeed get worse. It started to rain.

I was at least able to stay under trees and overpasses for a majority of the walk. By the time I got to my hostel check-in, everything was partially damp.

I was checking in with a tour group called Festivals All Around. They would be my host for the next three days all centered around La Tomatina Festival.

The plans for that evening were pretty fun: a paella cookout on the roof and then a beach party after. Except the rain cancelled out both plans.

So instead of waiting around for new plans to be made, I zipped up my rain jacket, walked to the nearest grocery store, stocked up on yummy snacks, and settled into my hostel room for the night.

Sometimes movie nights are all you need.
