“You’re Not From Here, Are Ya?”

December 20, 2017

I don’t often get to sleep in a room by myself. Bouncing from hostel to hostel, I often share a room with somewhere between 4 to 16 other roommates. And though I’ve found ways to block out the noise (white noise apps or ear plugs), I still manage to wake up frequently. Like, I wake up every hour or so.

Not very conducive to a good night’s sleep.

But during my stay in Sydney, Pasq and his roommate have graciously offered me their couch. And let me tell you, it’s made all the difference. I woke up this morning after sleeping a sound 10 hours. I haven’t slept for 10 hours in forever! It was a beautiful experience. I easily could’ve kept sleeping longer, but I told myself to stop being so lazy.

I made my own breakfast smoothie which I haven’t done since Edinburgh. It’s a morning routine I did back home, and it gives another level of comfort.

And then I started the 2nd season of The Crown on Netflix (Bryce coming in clutch with his login info). If you haven’t watched The Crown before, I highly recommend it – especially if you were a fan of Downton Abbey. It continues feeding that specific TV craving.

Here’s the trailer to season 1:

I do recognize that it seems silly to be laying around watching a TV show on my first full day in Sydney. But the thing is, sight-seeing a new city isn’t such a novel concept anymore. Crazy, I know. And so sometimes I just want to lay around and watch TV.

After that, I really needed to work on my website for a few hours. I walked to a coffee shop up the road and set up camp. As I was ordering an iced coffee, the barista discovered I wasn’t Australian. He said, “Ah, you’re not from here ar’ ya?” *heavy Australian accent*

No sir, I am not.

And you know what happened? I got the coffee for free. Well la ti da! I got that first time visitor freebie coffee thing. So, I’m a fan of The Coffee Roaster (yes this is a plug because I appreciate the free coffee that they so generously gave).

The rest of the evening included making dinner with Pasq and his roommate Tim.

Overall, I liked today. It felt like a normal day … which is super abnormal these past 7 months.
