Taking a Walk Through Porto

Oh hey, look — another walking tour.

Honestly by this point, I feel like a broken record about going on walking tours. I wonder how many I’ve done so far … let’s count! Ok, there was Galway, London, Edinburgh, Paris, Bruges, Berlin, Budapest, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Lisbon, and now Porto. 12 walking tours! Whoa.

My walking tour in Porto was about three hours which is a little too long in my opinion. However, my guide was pretty funny, so that’s always an added bonus. Also – travel tip – walking tours are a great way to make friends from your hostel.

I didn’t really know much about Porto before now, and I certainly didn’t know about all of the hills. But y’all, these hills are killer. After Lagos, Lisbon, and Porto, my calves are feelin’ it. Pain or strength – I can’t decipher which yet.

After the tour was over, I headed to the grocery store to stock up on food for the week. I try to buy a lot of produce to stay somewhat healthy. Sometimes grocery stores can be tricky, though.

For instance – I never know if I need to scan my own produce or if the cashier will do it. Look at the picture below:

By looking at it, do you think this machine is simply a scale or do you think it prints out a barcode sticker?

One of the biggest things I’ve learned since traveling is this: just ask. A cashier came over and showed me how it works. On every produce label, there’s a set of 6 numbers that you punch into this machine. It weighs your produce then spits out a sticker to scan.
