People At Museums Drive Me Nuts

July 26, 2017

Ok, I got beef.

And not the Texas-smoked kind. I have beef with Tourists. And I totally understand that I fall under the category of “tourist” myself, but some people really take it to the next level.

Whhhhhyyy is it necessary for tourists to go photo crazy in museums??

Follow me on this.

Either through school or media you learn about a painting that interests you. You look up images of it on Google, and you dream of the day that you can see it in person. You use your valuable vacation time, book an expensive ticket, fly across the world, find lodging, make your way to the museum, stand in line for sometimes hours, buy a ticket, find the painting …… and view it through another screen.

I rarely see tourists actually see a painting. They get all flustered about getting a shot  … *snap! snap! snap!* … *linger for 4.3 seconds* and then leave. The only memory of that painting they’ll have is from that photo, which is probably not as great as something they could’ve found on Google images.

And I find that quite sad.

// rant over.

In other news, I got to see my favorite painting today at the d’Orsay. And it was everything I hoped for and more.

I absolutely love Renoir, and his Bal au Moulin de la Galette has always brought a smile to my face. When I look at it, I can feel the sun lightly shining on my face – the French music dancing in my ears. It makes me wish I could find a time machine to be transported back to Paris in the late 1800s.

So if someone could work on that, that would be great. Kthanksbye.
