Moody Weather at New Chums Beach

February 5, 2018

There are some things that have become pretty standard with Tama and I’s travel this week. But the #1 thing? We both sleep in until about 11am. And you know what? I’m totally ok with this. I haven’t been able to sprawl out on a king-sized bed for this many consecutive days … ever. I mean, I have a queen-sized bed back home.

So yeah, I’m sleeping a lot.

Whenever I finally woke up and got ready for the day, we decided to hit up New Chums Beach. Which honestly, that meant nothing to me; I’m just going with the flow of Tama’s North Island road trip plan. I contributed by packing up a lunch for the day. We also packed up towels and a rugby ball, and away we went.

Driving down old back roads with the windows rolled down is probably one of my favorite things to do. Just of life. Having your hair whip around and smelling the air. It’s just the best.

Eventually we made it to New Chums Beach. Sort of. You see, you have to park the car … and then walk for about 20 minutes along a big bouldery pathway up the coast until you reach the woods. Then you walk for about another 5-10 minutes through the woods, and you finally pop out onto New Chums Beach.

Because of the hassle, only the few and dedicated relax on the beach. And that’s what makes it so great.

The weather was a bit average, but I kind of liked it. I thought it seemed moody. And since the terrain felt like something straight out of Jurassic Park, it sort of suited.

We stayed there for hours. I ate my lunch, attempted to read my book but then opted for a nap, got into the water (which was *ahem* freezing refreshing), and then went back to my important activity of napping.

I don’t know why I’m so tired all the time. To be honest, I think my body is just ready to be home.
