Casually Crying in Edinburgh’s Botanical Garden

July 14, 2017

Good news: I found a fellow breakfast smoothie drinker in Edinburgh. AND: he has a blender!

I am now in a verbal contract with him. At 8am we meet in the hostel kitchen to make smoothies. I provide the fruit, he provides the blender. Win, win. This is going to be a lovely week.

After savoring every sip of my smoothie, I realized I was still very tired. My bed enveloped me for another two hours before I reemerged again.

I woke up in time to make another meal. Because priorities. That’s when another new hostel friend and I decided to take a trip to Edinburgh’s Botanical Garden after we finished eating. We grabbed the 23 bus and rode up towards New Town.

The gardens were obviously stunning. I mean, duh.

Back home, I have a nickname: The Weeper.

A sad movie, a touching love story, a thoughtful Hallmark card – I weep. My emotions cannot remain suppressed in my body, and the feels squeeze forward into droplets against my cheeks.

It is what it is.

At the botanical gardens, almost every bench has been dedicated by a loved one. They often have fond remarks or moving poetry attached as well. I kid you not, I was moved to tears on several occasions.

But also, can we discuss how cool it is to be named Sir and Lady Risk??

Later that evening, my hostel friends and I went on an Edinburgh Ghost Tour. I had never been on one before, and I didn’t know what to expect.

They’re hilarious.

Our tour guide was very dedicated to his character, and he made the entire evening quite fun.
