I Took 3 Flights to Dublin

October 23, 2017

For those who have been following my journey for a while, then you might be thinking,

“Ahh, Meagan – didn’t you already visit Dublin?”

And the answer would be yes. Yes I did.

But after discovering a cheap flight back to Dublin, a mystery guest and I decided to meet back up and venture to Northern Ireland together. Lots of options of who this mystery guest could be, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see!

But because the flight to Dublin was so cheap, it also meant that the flight path was highly inconvenient. I would be flying from Split to Munich to Frankfurt to Dublin.

But on the upside? That’s three opportunities to sip on 7Up and eat weird plane sandwiches.

Sometimes I really hate living by the “I’ll try anything once” motto because I did not want to try that weird red pepper sandwich thing. But surprisingly it was quite good. Or maybe I was just really hungry.

On my 2nd flight, I had this thrilling seat neighbor (audio):

By my 3rd flight (and my zillionth passport check), I was ready to be in Dublin.

Whenever I go through passport control, I always feel like I’m hiding some mysterious criminal record. I’m always like, “Stay cool, Meagan, stay cool. Act normal. Don’t let them see you sweat.” I’m completely within my legal rights to visit the country, yet I freak out every time. So when passport control started asking me why I was returning back to Dublin, what my occupation was, where am I staying, can they see a verification of my flight ticket leaving Ireland, and my bank account balance …. I was really trying hard not to freak out. Eventually I was granted that beautiful green stamp, and away I went.

By the time I finally got to baggage claim, most of the luggage was cleared off the belt, and I didn’t see my backpack. I walked over to Baggage Services to ask if they have an oversize baggage area that sometimes backpacks get sent to, and he said, “Were you on the Lufthansa flight” Um yes. “Arriving from Munich and Frankfurt?” Ah yes. “Is your name Meagan?” Oh crap, why do you know all of this???

“I’m sorry to inform you that your luggage didn’t make the connection to Dublin and is still in Frankfurt.”

I got to my Airbnb and quickly got ready for bed (since I couldn’t brush my teeth or wash my face). I look forward to getting my backpack back tomorrow.
