Though I’ve only been traveling for two weeks (are we sure it hasn’t been longer??), one of the hardest things I’ve found has been doing the common stuff you take for granted back home.
Namely laundry.
After hiking in Monteverde and incessantly sweating in Tamarindo, my clothes smelled. Bad. Since I have three consecutive travel days coming up, I didn’t want to lug around dirty clothes. I asked a few of the surf instructors where I could get my laundry done, and boy did I get some fun answers. “Go down the street to Sharky’s, but stay on the left side. After you pass the souvenir shop (you know, cause those are so rare and all), look up and you’ll see a sign on a building. It’s somewhere in that shopping center across from it.” Oh, did I mention that was all communicated half in Spanish?
So basically I wandered.
It took me like five signs to finally find this dang laundry service. But when I found it, it was easy as pie.
Tangent: why do they say easy as pie? Pie isn’t all that easy to make. Especially if you make that fancy woven crust on top. Do they mean “easy as eating pie?” Cause that would make so much more sense.
Revision: It took me like five signs to finally find this dang laundry service. But when I found it, it was easy as eating pie.
They weighed my laundry bag (1 kilo = like 2 lbs), and they told me to come back in two hours. The grand total? $7. A total steal.
I wonder if laundry is this cheap globally. Cause if so, you better believe I’m just going to have other people do it. It was worth every colon.
