Fireworks and the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day

Let’s discuss dumb luck and how much I have. For instance, I know that Bastille Day is in the summer, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell you the exact date.

Fun fact – it’s July 14th.

Also fun fact – I flew into Paris … on July 14th.

I somehow managed to fly into Paris Orly, take the OrlyBus to my stop (being 80% sure I got on the correct bus), take the tram down 5 stops, and to my hostel without piecing together that it was Bastille Day. It was my Canadian roommate who actually informed me.

I quickly unpacked and had dinner with one of the girls staying in the hostel (we were casually talking on the tram when we both realized we were going to the same hostel). When it came to festivities for the night, our hearts quickly became set on one thing alone – the concert and fireworks at the Eiffel Tower.

If I’m being transparent with you readers, I was tired. And I allllllllmost bailed and went to bed.

“WHAAAT??”

I know, right? It would’ve been such a missed opportunity. And also freakin’ stupid.

But I pushed on, and my gosh I’m glad I did.

Steph and I got off the metro and were submerged into the Parisian setting sun. The glow sparkled off of Pont Alexandre III, and I’m pretty sure I uncontrollably gasped. Music floated off of the dinner cruises lining the Seine, and it made my heart yearn for Gene Kelly to come sweep me off my feet. He is the love of my life.

As we got closer to the Eiffel Tower, it felt like every Parisian in the city came to have a picnic with loved ones. It was dignified and romantic, and I couldn’t stop smiling.

The fireworks were next level, but it was the French patriotism that I enjoyed the most. I’ll carry these memories with me for forever.
